Dúchas is an Irish website dedicated to providing access to the National Archives from the Schools Collection of 1938/39 when all schools were invited to contribute stories, poems, riddles, recalled tales, historical accounts etc. as compiled by pupils in primary schools all over the country. These compilations were put together in book format and can be seen on this website with the original script used by the pupils (or teacher) and with a transcribed version available on the right hand side. St. Peter's N.S. took part with a total of 73 contributions appearing in the collection. The teacher involved was Seamus O'Quigley. These poems/stories/tales provide a fascinating look into the lives of ordinary pupils/parents and grandparents of the time, what they believed in and what they wished to share with generations who were following after them. Above and to the left are just some of titles to be found from the St. Peter's N.S. section of the Dúchas website. We know you will find them interesting if you choose to view the full list. Who knows, you may even find a relative provided a story to the collection back in 1938/39.
