Sensory Room

St. Peter’s N.S. is proud to have a dedicated sensory room, a calm and carefully designed space that supports the wellbeing and learning of our pupils.

Every child experiences the world differently, and some children can find the sights, sounds, and busyness of a school day overwhelming at times. Our sensory room offers a quiet, safe place where pupils can take a break, regulate their emotions, and return to class feeling settled and ready to learn.

The room is equipped with fibre-optic lights and bubble tubes, whose gentle colours and movement have a soothing, calming effect. Weighted blankets provide comforting deep pressure that helps children relax, while our ball pit offers a fun, active way for pupils to release energy and feel more alert and engaged. Together, these resources allow the room to be adapted to meet each child’s individual needs.

The sensory room is a valuable resource for pupils in our autism class, but its benefits reach across the whole school. It can help any child who is feeling anxious, unsettled, or in need of a moment to reset. Time spent in the room can also help pupils develop important skills, such as recognising their own feelings, building concentration, and learning strategies to manage their emotions independently.

By providing this space, we aim to create a truly inclusive school where every child feels understood, supported, and able to thrive.
